These are some of my paintings, drawings and ceramics.
My art is is very much influenced by my illustration. Each piece holds a story set in scenes that are familiar, yet with a nostalgic, dream like atmosphere. Places most 'visited' in my paintings are backyard pools, public pools, parks, beaches and cities.
I often incorporate birds into my work, as I find it poignant to see wild birds adapting to our constructed environments. While many of us appreciate their presence and make them a part of our lives, it is heartbreaking to recognise that our built environments are threatening their natural habitats and forcing them to lead altered lives.
Ideas for my paintings stem from small, sometimes tiny drawings that I create in my sketchbooks (or on bits of random paper that sometimes end up collaged into the work!). These are based on memories, both clear and altered by time, observations, songs and emotions associated with the changing seasons. As I create, the narratives may shift and evolve meaning the final painting may differ from the initial version. This results in layers of texture, drawing, scraping, sanding, and sometimes collaged ephemera adding a rich depth and history to the surface.
I use acrylics, pan pastels, pastels, pencils and collage with different layers of varnishes to achieve layers and depth. I also delight in adding metallics for a subtle shimmer.
Feel free to message me if you would like to add them to your walls.
